Article 4 - 94 Hamsters Given up to Animal Shelter

"There are just many, many of them. He ran out of space for them, and that's when he came in." says shelter director Mike Keiley, when a man stopping by to drop off 94 hamsters, at his small shelter in Massachusetts. The man, unidentified, says that he has been building his collection for over five years now.  He had been running out of space in his small sized apartment. He had a hard time parting with his small rodents and even intended to keep a few, when the shelter came to gather them from him, but was later convinced that they all needed to go.

Article 6 - Heavy Metal Will Save Your Life!

"In order to avoid getting attacked by wolves you must attack them, NOT run away," a thirteen year old boy recalls, information that proved useful when he was surrounded by four wolves in the central Norwegian municipality of Rakkestad. He 'attacked' the wolves by playing a heavy-metal song by Megadeth from his mobile phone. The sound of the thrash-metal emitting from the phone had scared the wolves away, and in turn had save the boys life.

Article 3 - PANTS ON THE GROUND!

School officials at Northwestern High School, in North Carolina, lend out belts to students with saggy belts rather than punishing them right away. The administrators hope that this action will reduce the number of students referred to discipline, and make students realize how they dress. Previously, students would be written up and sent to the office if their pants sagged below their waste. Junior Joe Johnson says that students already wear belts on their sagging pants, and is unsure that the schools lending of belts will deter teens to pull their pants up. The principle of the school states that he is willing to do anything to give the students a chance to do something right.

Article 2 - Gay Hate Crime Going Way Too Far

Burke Burnett was at a party when three men attending the party found out he was homosexual. He says
that night "Reminded me just how much hatred was still directed towards lesbians, and gays." The victim was beaten harshly, stabbed twice with a broken beer bottle, and thrown into a fire, sending him to near death! If it wasn't for some kind-hearted girls at the party, stepping in and letting Burnett get away.

The three suspects were charged with aggravated assault but police are leaving it up to the grand jury to decide whether its hate crime or not. Each suspect will be receiving five to ninety-nine years in prison.

But even justice can't heal Burnett's wounds. He needed thirty stitches total, above his eye, and on his ribcage, and now wears bandages for the entire leg full of blisters from the fire.

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL!

On October 31st we celebrated the ever-famed holiday, Halloween.
Halloween being one of my favorite days of the year, I decided to right an article covering most everything about this wonderful, and sometimes scary day:

Origin:
Traces of Halloween date back to a holiday called All Hallows, a Celtic celebration of the dead. All Hallows , otherwise known as All Saints Day, was a very busy holiday. However, the night prior to All Saints had the most intense activity, human and supernatural both. People still celebrate All Hallows Eve as the night of the wandering dead, but now people tend to think that the supernatural beings are evil. The people continued to propitiate the masked impersonators of the spirits by leaving different foods and drinks out for them. Before you knew it, All Hallows Eve became Hallow Evening, to Hallowe'en--an ancient Celtic, pre-Christian New Year's Day in contemporary dress.

Movies:
There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting around at my house and watching fun Halloween movies. Here are some timeless, Halloween classics that aren't too scary:

  • Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Tim Burton's Sleepy Hallow
  • Tim Burton's Beetlejuice
  • Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands
  • Stephen King's Cats Eye
  • Charles Addams's The Addams Family Movie
  • Disney Pixar's Coraline
  • J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter movies
  • Charles M. Schulz's It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein
So after a long night of trick-or-treating you can relax and settle down with these great Halloween flicks, eat all the Halloween candy you earned, and remember the true meaning of Halloween.
